I hate being sick. I will avoid admitting I'm sick just because I think I can will the sickness away. On the off chance I feel bad enough to admit that I need a day off, though, there's an arsenal of remedies to get back into tip top shape!

Garlic is one of my favorite cure all's. It's antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic, and stimulates your immune system! Garlic has been used for thousands of years to treat every ailment from lack of courage to joint disease. For therapeutic benefits, you'll need four grams of fresh garlic, cooked til soft, or 600 to 900 mg garlic powder.

Hippocrates used oregano to treat many conditions, as it is a potent antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and an antioxidant. There is a blend of oregano to go for, though: the P73 wild oregano blend. There are other types of oregano, but this blend has been proven to kill what's causing your illness.

Echinacea is a popular immune enhancer. It is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, would healing, and increases lymphatic flow. Although not conclusive, some studies suggest that taking echinacea on a regular basis may decrease your changes of getting a cold by about half. Clinic studies have shown echinacea's benefits in treating the flu, tonsilitis, and even anxiety! Different types of echinacea require different dosages. For example, use one to three grams per deciliter of dried echinacea augustifolia root or 1.5 to four grams per deciliter of dried echinacea purpurea root for preventative purposes. For treatment, increase the dosage four to five times.

Elderberry is "the medicine chest of the country people". It is used as a diuretic, laxative, antioxidant, to induce sweating, and to treat the cold and flu. When getting elderberry as a 2:1 extract, you'll want to take two to three tsp four times per day for acute symptoms. Elderberry even comes as a lozenge, which have been shown to help treat flu symptoms effectively.
