Why are you doing this? Why are you working so hard to be healthy, lose weight, or improve your fitness? Why bother?
One of the first questions I ask my clients when they come in for the first time, and often throughout their journey, is "why are you here?" When making a major lifestyle change, that's the most important question you can ask yourself. What is motivating you? What's the deep, dark why that brought you to this point?
Often, people know exactly what their WHY is on the first day:
I want to live a healthy lifestyle to be an inspiration to my family
I want to lose weight so my hip will stop causing me so much pain
I want to eat better because I'm tired of being tired and miserable every day
Your why is strong when you start. They're passionate, long-term, and exciting! It's what got your started! But after a few months, sometimes your why fades. I'll ask again "why are you here?" and get different answers:
I just want to eat better
I wanted to look good in a bathing suit this summer
I guess I wanted to lose weight
These are shallow answers. They're worthless when faced with tough decisions. In this instance, I turn into a two year old. WHY do you want to eat better? WHY do you want to lose weight? WHY WHY WHY until we get to that original deep, true answer.
Keep track of that why! It's what keeps you going!
